While away on vacation in NYC I decided it was time for a change. Actually, I decided this a long time ago, but the time had come. You see, I’ve been living in Sweden for over a year and a half now, but I still haven’t been brave enough to get a hair cut here. Not because I have a go-to hair stylist or anything, but I’ve just been chickening out. That and I think it’s too expensive (like most beauty related things are here: hair, nails, eyebrows, make up), but I digress. Another reason I waited? I wanted to donate my hair to the Locks of Love charity so that my hair can be of some comfort to a child who can’t grow his or her own.

With short styled hair I’m bound to start going to get my hair cut on a regular basis, forcing me to finally get my hair cut in Sweden, which might sound trivial, and it is, but it proves that even after living here after a year and a half there is still something new to experience.

We got back to Sweden about two weeks ago and are finally back on track with our daily routines and without (a full week of) horrible jet lag. You know what that means? Back to blogging!
Something Swedish

One day, every six weeks, I walk around looking like a mushroom because that’s how my hair stylist does my hair. She does a great cut otherwise, but likes hair spray and big hair. I haven’t figured out how to say that I don’t really like it in Swedish, so I just suck it up. 🙂 Good luck!

That’s how I felt after this haircut! She styled it so oddly that I looked like I had a mullet, I washed it as soon as I got home to restyle. Thanks for sharing, it made me feel like my fear of getting my hair cut in another country isn’t so odd. I’m not picky, but I’d like to express what I want my hair to look like!

Your new hairstyle looks very good on you, refreshing! I am always amazed by the sheer amount of hairdressing salons i see in Sweden. And appears to be the same in every city or village.

It’s funny because the first few times I walked around this town I didn’t notice ANY of them, aside from maybe one in the center of town. I guess I was just a little blind, or we didn’t venture that far or I didn’t really understand what a hair dresser looked like yet, but there really are more than I expected, especially considering the high prices.

I spent 5 years in Sweden last time and never visited a hairdresser. This time (back only a week), I know I will have to go (this time I have two little boys that cannot go 5 years without a cut!). Well done for Locks of Love – you look great 🙂

Yes!! I love when my hair is curly, but it’s so hard to do with long thick hair! I am actually curling it more now that it’s short!

Your hair looks great! It took me a year to muster up the courage to get a haircut here, but I couldn’t avoid it as desperately needed a cut before my wedding. Expensive yes, but my main put off was the worry of having to talk Swedish for a whole hour!

I got married in Sweden two months ago and was shocked at the price (especially because we were in Mariestad) and I was pleasantly surprised when they stylist recognized that conversation might be easier in English and switched. It made describing what I wanted so much easier!

That’s good to hear! The nice thing about Swedes is that most of them switch to English easily and don’t really mind! It’s a huge help in situations like that!

Looking great!! Yeah. Getting a haircut, going to the doctor… these were things that were huge for me the first time I did them. I’m not sure why. Enjoy the end of summer!
